OCTOBER UPDATES
October Vocabulary Test
October is our vocabulary test month for Cultivate. Tests will take place Monday, October 12th – Thursday, October 15th, 2025.
Our vocabulary list remains the same each season for every level. We believe that studying these terms outside of class helps dancers strengthen their understanding of ballet technique and improve their classroom application. While these terms will be used in class, they will not be taught in detail. Dancers are expected to learn them independently by reviewing the provided video and vocabulary list.
New this year: Character-based vocabulary have been added to each Vocab List to emphasize the importance of how we take technique class and approach learning.
All dancers are expected to score at least 70%. Any dancer scoring below 70% will be required to retake the test until this score is achieved (see retake process below).
-
Dancers will complete their test during class with Ms. Shelby in:
Ballet (Levels 1, 2, & 5)
Jazz (Levels 1.5 & 2.5)
Modern (Levels 3 & 5)
Level 6 dancers will test on Monday at the beginning of their Jazz class with Ms. Ali.
-
Levels 1, 1.5, 2, & 2.5: Matching
Levels 3–6: Combination of oral, kinesthetic, and written
If you know your dancer will need one-on-one assistance, please let us know in advance so we can provide accommodations.
-
Graded tests will be available for pickup at the Studio Host Desk two weeks after testing.
-
If your dancer is absent during testing week or scores below 70%, they must schedule a test or retake during Ms. Shelby’s office hours.
Parents are responsible for checking their dancer’s score and reserving a retake time using the link below.
This process should be repeated until a score of at least 70% is achieved.
If you can no longer attend a scheduled time, please use the link to cancel so Ms. Shelby receives the update.
If your dancer is unable to attend the provided office hours, please email support@danceatbloom.com.

Cultivate Costume Week: Monday, October 26th – Friday, October 30th
Dancers are invited to participate in Costume Week while still maintaining appropriate dance attire. Costumes must be removable after warm-up if requested by the instructor, and dancers should be prepared to fully participate in a technique class.
This week will also serve as this month’s Free Dress Week. We encourage dancers to have fun and be creative while still supporting a focused and enriching class environment.
We recommend adding small touches such as hair pieces, a simple prop, or fun character-inspired colors. Please avoid large or oversized costumes, multi-piece outfits, or items that cannot be easily removed for full movement.
October Stretch & Strength Rotation
As a reminder, all dancers should now have their stretch materials and bring a yoga mat to their designated class. Please click the drop-down below to view your dancer’s Stretch & Strength class details, including the assigned classes for Levels 4–6 in October.
